Flamenco Negra by Larry Breslin

Bear Claw Englemann Spruce and Brazilian Rosewood

Overview

This flamenco negra was handmade by Larry Breslin in 2005.
The soundboard is a beautiful master grade Englemann spruce set with tremendous bear claw figuration.
The back and sides are extremely rare old-growth Brazilian rosewood, pre-convention tone wood, air dried for several decades.   Side construction features inner Spanish Cypress ribs.   The neck is shaped from very old Cuban cedar.   The tapered and bound fingerboard is ebony and so are all of the bindings.   The headstock is Brazilian Rosewood.   The "Simplicius 1929" tuning machines are made by Nicolo Allesi in Italy, high-quality tuners that operate smoothly and accurately.

Condition

The guitar is in near-mint condition with no issues, no cracks or repairs.
A one-owner instrument, non-smoker and very carefully maintained.
It is in original condition with no changes of any kind.
The French polished soundboard and back/side gloss finish are also in great shape.
The fingerboard and frets are in excellent shape.

Performance & Measures

The Engelmann top projects quickly and strongly.   The timbre is well balanced with a sweet character, clear trebles, punchy middle register and a dark, yet brilliant bottom end.   This negra is extremely comfortable to play.   The neck shape is a very comfortable flattened oval design, thin and consistently so from the first position nearly to the 12th.   A tapered and bound ebony fingerboard provides extremely fast action, with high-E set at 2mm and low-E set at 2.75mm on the 12th position.   Scale is 650mm. Nut width is 51mm.
